Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks after suffering a muscle tear in his thigh.
The Italian club confirmed the injury, while Sky Sport Italia reported the likely timetable for the 30-year-old’s recovery.
Pellegrini was hurt during Roma’s 4-0 victory over Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava in the third round of the league phase of the Champions League. He was substituted in the 51st minute, with Matias Soule taking his place.
The midfielder has made four appearances for Roma this season but has yet to score or provide an assist.
Pellegrini came through Roma’s youth system before leaving for Sassuolo in the summer of 2015 in a deal worth 1.3m euros. Roma brought him back two years later for 10m euros.
He has since made 353 appearances for the club, scoring 62 goals and contributing 63 assists.
Pellegrini’s current contract with Roma expires next summer. He extended the agreement last summer for one additional season.
