Lorenz Assignon to miss Stuttgart season opener after shoulder surgery

Lorenz Assignon will miss the start of the season as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery away from VfB Stuttgart’s training camp in Grassau.

The right-back is currently rehabbing in France, while coach Sebastian Hoeneb says the club is giving him the best possible chance to work on the injury properly.

Hoeneb made it clear that Assignon will not be available for the opening match, but the return timeline is not expected to be long.

“He won’t be there for the start of the season. But then things will move relatively quickly. Of course, that also depends on how things progress,” Hoeneb said.

That update offers Stuttgart some clarity, even if it means they must begin the campaign without a player they had hoped to have ready. Assignon’s absence is a setback, but the club appears confident that his recovery is progressing in the right direction. His work back in France is meant to support both healing and a smoother return to full training.

Assignon’s situation leaves Stuttgart with one fewer option at right-back for now, though the staff are avoiding unnecessary risks. If his recovery continues as planned, he should be back in contention soon after the season begins.
