Lorenz Assignon scores stunning goal on Stuttgart return

Lorenz Assignon made a memorable return for VfB Stuttgart after four months away with a shoulder injury, scoring an acrobatic goal in a friendly against Heidenheim.

The right-back underwent surgery in early June and had worked patiently through a demanding rehabilitation programme. He finally returned to action when coach Sebastian Hoeneß introduced him in the 60th minute.

Assignon needed only 12 minutes to make an impact. After receiving Jamie Leweling’s delivery, the 26-year-old produced an impressive bicycle kick that gave Stuttgart a 2-0 lead. It was a spectacular way to end a frustrating spell on the sidelines.

Following the match, Assignon shared his relief with Stuttgart supporters: “I was out for four months, I was in pain and had to work hard, but now I’m back. I’m happy and enjoying being able to play in the Bundesliga and the Champions League again.”

His comeback gives Hoeneß another option on the right flank ahead of a busy autumn schedule. Assignon could gain more minutes in Stuttgart’s friendly against Greuther Fürth on October 1, before the Bundesliga resumes against Paderborn on October 10.
