Lookman hailed as one of Atletico’s best modern signings ahead of Arsenal showdown
Ademola Lookman has been singled out as one of the most impactful acquisitions in recent years at Atletico Madrid, with former assistant coach Luis Tevenet praising the forward’s immediate influence ahead of their UEFA Champions League semifinal clash with Arsenal.
Tevenet, who worked under Diego Simeone last season, delivered a strong endorsement of the Nigerian international’s January arrival from Atalanta, insisting the winger has added a missing dimension to Atletico’s attacking structure.
His assessment comes at a pivotal moment, with the Spanish side preparing for a high-stakes first-leg meeting against Arsenal.
Lookman’s impact has been swift and measurable. In 18 appearances for Atletico, he has contributed 11 goal involvements, finding the net seven times while providing four assists.
His productivity has strengthened Simeone’s attacking options, offering balance on both flanks and increasing the team’s unpredictability in transition.
Tevenet went further in his assessment, describing the signing as one of the most significant the club has made in the past decade.
Speaking to AS, he said: “With the arrival of Lookman he has the speed that the team demanded.”
“For me he has been one of the club’s most important signings in the last six, seven years: now Atleti is much more ambiguous on both sides.”
On Antoine Griezmann, he added: “(Griezmann has in his head) the treasure map.
“He knows perfectly well in each play where the exits are and, above all, the people who understand the game.”
