Lois Openda sidelined after fibula fracture in clash with former club
Olympique Lyonnais will be without Lois Openda for several weeks after the forward fractured his fibula during Friday’s Ligue 1 match against his former club, RC Lens.
Openda, who joined Lyon on loan from Juventus, was forced off after sustaining the injury during a challenge. The incident followed a series of fouls, and Lyon have voiced concerns about the protection he received during the match.
Medical examinations confirmed the fracture. The club has not set a precise return date, but expects the Belgian to remain unavailable until at least the international break in mid-November.
His absence is a setback for Paulo Fonseca’s side as they pursue Champions League qualification while also competing in the Europa League. Openda’s pace and attacking threat will be missed during a busy stretch of fixtures.
The injury could open the door for Remi Himbert to receive more opportunities. The young attacker has had limited minutes so far this season and may now be asked to help fill the gap in Lyon’s forward line.
Lyon will monitor Openda’s recovery closely, with his return dependent on progress from the fracture. For now, the club must manage without the 26-year-old for the coming weeks.
