Lois Openda: Lyon eye ambitious move for Juventus and Belgium striker

Lois Openda, the Belgium international striker at Juventus, is being linked with a summer move to Ligue 1 side Lyon as the French club look to reinforce their attack ahead of the new season.

The 26-year-old centre-forward only joined Juventus on a permanent deal this month after the Italian side paid €42.75m to sign him from RB Leipzig following an initial loan. Despite that recent investment and a contract running until 30 June 2030, Lyon are monitoring his situation and exploring whether a deal could be structured for a player currently valued at around €25m.

Openda, born in Liege and eligible for both Belgium and Morocco, returned to Turin this summer after spending last season on loan from Leipzig, a spell that convinced Juventus to activate an agreement to keep him. His performances in Germany had already raised his profile, with the forward part of the RB Leipzig squad that won the German Super Cup in 2023–24.

Lyon’s interest comes as they look to re-establish themselves near the top of Ligue 1 and consider options with proven experience in major European leagues. Openda previously made his name in France with Lens, earning a big-money move to Leipzig in 2023 after a prolific campaign in Ligue 1.

Juventus, who committed to a long-term deal when they completed the transfer from Leipzig on 1 July 2026, are under no pressure to sell, and any move is likely to depend on the scale of Lyon’s offer and the player’s stance as he prepares for his first full season as a contracted Juve forward.
