Loïc Rémy’s Arsenal Move in Doubt as QPR Set High Transfer Fee
Reports that Loïc Rémy was close to joining Arsenal have been cast into doubt, with Queens Park Rangers (QPR) potentially set to keep the French striker, according to The Daily Mail. The London club’s asking price of €18 million may deter potential buyers.
Adding to the complexity, Sport24.lefigaro.fr, citing The Mirror, revealed an unusual clause in Rémy’s contract at QPR that ties his transfer fee to the Premier League ranking of the buying club last season. Clubs finishing in the top four — and thus qualifying for the Champions League — would pay £8.5 million (€10.7 million), while those finishing in the top six would pay £11 million (€13.8 million). For all other clubs, the fee jumps to £15 million (€18.8 million).
The 27-year-old striker is also reportedly unwilling to reduce his wage demands, seeking between £80,000 and £90,000 per week (€100,000 to €113,000). Arsenal and Liverpool are frequently linked with the player.
Last season, Rémy was on loan at Newcastle United, where he scored 14 goals in 26 league appearances, demonstrating his striking prowess. However, whether his next destination will be Arsenal or a continuation with QPR remains uncertain amid these financial hurdles.
