Liverpool to launch £130m move for Swedish-Eritrean striker Alexander Isak as Newcastle close in on Woltemade
Liverpool are reportedly preparing a fresh move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with a £130 million offer expected as the Magpies close in on Werder Bremen forward Nick Woltemade.
The development signals Arne Slot’s determination to bolster his attack before the transfer window closes, even as Newcastle weigh how to balance strengthening their squad with the possible loss of their star striker.
Isak, born in Sweden to Eritrean parents, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most lethal forwards.
His technical quality, sharp movement, and finishing ability have made him central to Newcastle’s project under Eddie Howe, but Liverpool’s renewed pursuit reflects his rising stock across Europe.
According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Reds are monitoring Newcastle’s transfer dealings closely, with the Tyneside club nearing completion of a deal for the German forward Woltemade. Should that move go through, it could pave the way for negotiations over Isak, although Newcastle’s valuation of their striker remains steep.
Isak, 25, was one of the standout performers in the Premier League last season. His form has already drawn interest from several elite clubs, but Liverpool appear willing to push hardest in pursuit of his signature.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have already strengthened their squad in other areas this summer and see Woltemade as a long-term attacking option.
However, losing Isak would represent a significant blow, especially as they seek to return to the Champions League.
For Liverpool, the chase for Isak underlines their intent to add another marquee forward to complement Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez, and Luis Díaz. Whether Newcastle will sanction such a sale remains uncertain, but the £130m bid shows Liverpool’s seriousness in testing their resolve.
