Liverpool step up interest in Ivorian starlet Yan Diomande

Liverpool have reportedly begun exploring the possibility of signing young Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig as part of their plans to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.

With clubs across Europe already making moves in preparation for the upcoming campaign, the 19-year-old has emerged as one of the promising talents attracting attention, as speculation surrounding his future continues to grow.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool have taken the first steps to assess a potential deal for the highly rated winger. The report indicates that the English side have already held preliminary discussions regarding a possible transfer.

Liverpool are believed to be keen on reinforcing their attacking options, particularly as uncertainty lingers over the future of some key players. The situation surrounding Mohamed Salah, as well as Federico Chiesa, has fuelled discussions about potential changes to the club’s attacking line during the summer transfer window.

Reports from Germany suggest that RB Leipzig would demand a fee of up to €100 million to part ways with their highly valued Ivorian prospect.

Diomande previously drew attention for comments he made in the past when he revealed his ambition to one day play at Anfield, describing the idea as “my father’s dream”.

At the time, the statement was widely interpreted as a clear indication that Liverpool was his preferred destination.

However, the winger later clarified his remarks in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.

“People have portrayed it as if Liverpool is my dream club, but first and foremost it is my father’s favourite club.

“My father always spoke enthusiastically about Steven Gerrard, and I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a television at home for a long time. I have great respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is RB Leipzig,” Yan Diomande said.

Despite that clarification, English media outlets continue to link the young attacker with a possible move to Anfield next summer, with growing interest in him as a long-term option to strengthen Liverpool’s frontline.

Diomande remains under contract with RB Leipzig until the summer of 2030, placing the Bundesliga side in a strong position should negotiations arise.

The young winger has enjoyed an impressive campaign this season, featuring in 26 matches for the German club, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists, a return that has further cemented his status as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting emerging talents.
