Liverpool ready Ismaila Sarr January raid as Senegal forward eyes Anfield move

Liverpool are preparing to revive their pursuit of Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr when the January transfer window opens, with the Senegal international still keen on a move to Anfield.

The Reds are reportedly ready to return for Sarr after failing to secure his signature during the summer, despite the 28-year-old emerging as one of Palace’s most important attacking players.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool have already assembled a £40 million package for Sarr and intend to make their move as early as possible when the market reopens in January 2027.

Sarr still wants Liverpool move

Sarr’s potential move to Merseyside dominated the closing stages of the summer window after his outstanding 2026/27 campaign for Palace.

The Senegal star finished the season as the club’s leading scorer across all competitions, finding the net 21 times at Selhurst Park and establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking outlets.

His performances subsequently attracted Liverpool’s attention, with the club exploring a deal before Palace ultimately retained the forward.

Palace manager Pierre Sage previously acknowledged the disappointment surrounding Sarr’s failed transfer and suggested the player would need time to come to terms with the outcome.

Sage said Sarr would need “time to digest” missing out on the move after the forward had made his desire to join Liverpool known.

Liverpool undeterred by summer breakdown

Despite the failed negotiations, Liverpool have apparently not abandoned their interest.

Sarr’s representatives were critical of how the discussions unfolded, with his agent Diomansy Kamara accusing the clubs involved of showing a lack of respect during the negotiations.

That dispute, however, has seemingly done little to cool Liverpool’s interest.

The Premier League champions are now expected to test Palace’s resolve again, with the proposed £40m package potentially giving the London club a decision to make early in the new year.

Liverpool’s renewed pursuit could also put Sarr in a stronger position to push for his departure.

Palace face fresh Sarr dilemma

Sage’s immediate task will be to reintegrate Sarr into the Palace squad and ensure the forward remains focused despite the disappointment of missing out on his preferred destination.

For Palace, retaining a player who scored 21 goals last season represents a major sporting boost, but another transfer approach could reopen the issue within months.

Sarr, meanwhile, could use the first half of the campaign to strengthen his case for a move by maintaining the form that made him Liverpool’s target in the first place.
