Premier League outfit Liverpool are edging closer to signing Franco-Cameroonian forward Hugo Ekitiké in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Ekitike rediscovered his form at Frankfurt following a difficult spell with Paris Saint Germain. He joined the Bundesliga club, initially on loan before making the move permanent last summer for just over €16m.
In his first full season, the forward has excelled, scoring 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across competitions.
According to reports, the Reds has reached an agreement to snap up the enterprising attacker this summer over a six-year contract.
Liverpool’s priority target was Newcastle United centre-forward Alexander Isak and were keen to broker a record-breaking transfer fee with the Magpies to lure the Sweden international to Anfield.
However, Liverpool also enquired to Eintracht Frankfurt regarding the possibility of signing Hugo Ekitike, who was also a Newcastle United target.
Now, it appears Liverpool have ramped up talks to sign the France U21 international, with Newcastle leaving the negotiation table.
Expressing desire to joined Liverpool, the young Franco-Cameroonian attacker rejected the opportunity to join Manchester United.
Negotiations remain underway between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt over a transfer fee. The German outfit are hoping to garner a fee close to €90 million.
