Germany and Liverpool playmaker, Florian Wirtz has downplayed rumours regarding rift with Egyptian international, Mohammed Salah.

Wirtz joined the Premier League giants from German side Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £100 million plus potential bonuses of up to £16 million.

Earlier reports suggested a frosty relationship on the pitch, particularly due to their playing style and overlapping roles.

Speaking to the BBC about joining Liverpool, Wirtz said, “I thought this was the right place for me to develop and become a bigger player, because the club is so big.”

“I had fruitful meetings with Slot before I joined, and a number of players contacted me, such as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah as well.”

“Salah sent me a message. They didn’t beg me to join, they just wanted to give me an impression of the club. Virgil said he would be happy for me to join and maybe I could help the team more than last season. That’s what one is happy to hear.”

Wirtz is having a good season with Liverpool despite a slow start under Slot, scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.
