Liverpool have initiated discussions over the potential signing of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong as they prepare for a possible departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Dutch international, who has Ghanaian heritage, is emerging as a key target for the Reds amid speculation that their current right-back is set to join Real Madrid.
Reports on Tuesday indicated that Alexander-Arnold has reached an agreement on personal terms with the Spanish giants, increasing the likelihood of a summer transfer.
In response, Liverpool have been linked with several defensive reinforcements, with the PA News Agency confirming their interest in Frimpong. However, negotiations remain at an early stage.
According to Bundesliga expert Christian Falk, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has already been in direct communication with Frimpong regarding a potential move.
“Jeremie Frimpong and Arne Slot were on the phone a lot last month. Both are Dutch, and Slot wanted to sign him in the summer. The Liverpool head coach had been telling the full-back he was still keen to get him,” Falk revealed.
While Liverpool are monitoring Frimpong, they face competition from Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea, all of whom have also expressed interest.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at Leverkusen, contributing 15 goal involvements in 40 matches.
With Liverpool preparing for a busy transfer window, securing a high-quality replacement for Alexander-Arnold will be a priority.
