Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp reportedly identified Antony as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah during uncertainty over the Egyptian forward’s contract renewal in 2022. According to The Times, Salah’s protracted negotiations had Klopp exploring alternatives, with Antony, then excelling at Ajax, emerging as a standout candidate.
Liverpool’s interest in Antony coincided with Manchester United’s pursuit of the Brazilian, who eventually joined them for £82 million under Erik ten Hag.
Despite this, Salah ultimately signed a record-breaking deal to remain at Anfield, securing his place as Liverpool’s talisman.
Since then, Salah has vastly outperformed Antony, recording 65 goals and 40 assists in contrast to Antony’s 12 goals and five assists.
As Antony faces speculation over his future at United, Salah now approaches the final six months of his Liverpool deal, prompting fresh discussions over his future.
