Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones reveals Mohamed Salah apology details behind the scenes
Curtis Jones has revealed how Mohamed Salah apologised to the Liverpool squad after his explosive comments about his relationship with coach Arne Slot caused a stir in recent weeks.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Jones explained that Salah addressed the entire dressing room and made sure no one was left with hard feelings.
Salah had been left out of the squad for the Champions League win over Inter Milan after saying he was no longer on good terms with Slot following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United in the Premier League.
Talks between the pair cleared the air, and the Egyptian star returned to the team, impressing against Brighton by coming off the bench and assisting Hugo Ekitike’s second goal. Slot later stressed he has “no problem” with Salah, who has since joined up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Jones said Salah spoke openly to his teammates, stressing he never meant to harm the group and that his emotions came from a burning desire to win. “If I have affected anyone or caused you any negative feelings, I apologize.’ That’s just his nature,” Jones told Sky Sports
Jones added: “I can only speak from my own experience of Mo and how he interacts with us and how he behaves. He was very positive, and the same old Mo hadn’t changed. He had a smile on his face, and everyone treated him with the same enthusiasm. I think that’s part of his desire to win, and I don’t think this will be the last time he does something like this.”
He continued: “I understand that there are certain ways of dealing with things, but if a player is content to sit on the bench and does not want to play and help the team, then that is the real problem. Whenever we felt any kind of anger, including myself, it was always from good intentions. Perhaps it was not expressed in the best way at the time, but it was never intended to affect the team, the coaching staff, the coach, or anyone else. We have moved past that now, we are in harmony as a team, we are playing well, and we have started to achieve victories.”
