Mamadou Sakho, who has been absent since December 29 due to an Achilles tendon injury, is set to return to the Liverpool squad for their upcoming match against Manchester United on Sunday. Alongside Sakho, Lucas Leiva, who has been recovering from a knee injury since January 18, will also be back in the squad.
Liverpool manager praised the commitment of both players to the team, noting that they had worked hard with the medical team during their recovery. Sakho even played with the U21s last Friday before rejoining the senior squad.
With their return, the question arises whether Sakho will be able to reclaim his place in the starting lineup ahead of Martin Skrtel or Daniel Agger, who have been regular starters in recent weeks.
