Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian star matched his assist record for the club.
Salah set up Virgil van Dijk’s decisive goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Sunderland on Wednesday, bringing his Premier League assist total for the Reds to 92—level with Gerrard’s long-standing record.
Speaking on TNT Sports after the match, Gerrard welcomed both the victory and Salah’s achievement.
“This is fantastic for him,” he said.
“He should have got past me tonight—he made an incredible pass to Hugo Ekitike in the last game, but missed an easy chance. I’m sure he’s disappointed he didn’t pass to me, and I also know he’ll remind me of that.”
Salah has now played 26 games across all competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists.
Off the pitch, the Liverpool forward has recently been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
