Liverpool legend Graeme Souness criticizes Mohamed Salah’s outburst

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness admitted he was annoyed and disappointed by Mohamed Salah’s recent comments after the Leeds United match in the Premier League, when the Egyptian star criticized the club and coach Arne Slot for marginalizing him in recent games.

Souness felt Salah focused too much on himself at a time when the entire team is struggling.

The former Scotland and Liverpool midfielder told the English newspaper Liverpool Echo: “I was upset and annoyed by Mohamed Salah’s comments, he lost his head in that moment and made everything about him.. It’s true he is not the only reason for the team’s defeats, but he should have criticized himself, as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.” He believes Salah’s current numbers are far from what he produced last season and that this dip must be acknowledged.

Souness added: “Mohamed Salah has decided many games thanks to his individual brilliance, but today he has to look at himself in the mirror and admit his numbers are nowhere near last season’s.” He was particularly surprised by Salah’s claim that he does not need to fight for his starting place, insisting football is like any other job where yesterday’s achievements mean little compared to what comes next.

He continued: “I was surprised when he said he doesn’t need to fight for his place in the team!.. How can he think like that? Playing football is like any other job.. what you did yesterday doesn’t matter today, what matters is what you will do tomorrow.” Souness also doubts that Salah and Slot have fully resolved their issues and expects the situation to become clearer after Salah returns from the Africa Cup of Nations.
