Kolo Touré Backs Balotelli: “Now That He’s Scored, the Goals Will Come”
Following his long-awaited goal against Swansea, support continues to grow around Mario Balotelli, with his Liverpool teammate Kolo Touré offering strong words of encouragement.
Balotelli had gone 626 minutes without scoring, his last goal coming on September 16 in the Champions League against Ludogorets. But on Tuesday night, the Italian striker finally found the back of the net—an important step in restoring his confidence.
“For strikers, goals are a bit like food,” said Touré in an interview with the Liverpool Echo. “Mario has to feed himself by scoring goals. Now that he’s scored one, he’ll definitely continue. Scoring this goal is fantastic for his confidence.”
Touré went further, praising Balotelli’s natural talent and reaffirming the squad’s support:
“He’s a great player. He just needed goals. Mario is my teammate and I try to help him, as do Stevie [Gerrard], the manager [Brendan Rodgers] and the other guys in the dressing room. We all know he’s a great player. I always tell him, ‘You have to show that you’re one of the best players in the world.’”
With this renewed belief from inside the Liverpool camp, Balotelli now has every reason to respond on the pitch and silence his critics once and for all.
