Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is on the verge of completing a permanent move to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, and details of a buy-back clause in the agreement have now been made public.
Quansah, who has Ghanaian roots, is currently with England’s U21 squad at the European Championship and is expected to finalise the move once the tournament concludes.
The 22-year-old has been seen as one of Liverpool’s most promising academy graduates, with standout performances when paired with first-team regulars like Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s decision to insert a buy-back clause indicates they are not fully closing the door on Quansah’s future at Anfield.
“The buy-back clause for Jarell Quansah deal exclusively revealed last week will be worth over €60m,” Romano posted.
“It won’t be available in 2026, only from 2027 as agreed between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen. The initial fee will be £30m plus £5m add-ons.”
While the decision to let Quansah go has raised questions among fans, Liverpool have been proactive in the market.
Left-back Milos Kerkez underwent his medical on Tuesday as part of the club’s summer revamp.
Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong has also arrived to bolster the squad as manager Arne Slot looks to shape his team ahead of the new season.
