Liverpool in advanced talks to sign French-Cameroonian striker Hugo Ekitike
Liverpool have opened advanced negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt over the signing of striker Hugo Ekitike, with a deal valued at over €80 million reportedly on the table.
The Reds have shifted focus to the 23-year-old forward after being told by Newcastle United that Alexander Isak is not for sale.
Ekitike, who was born in France but has Cameroonian roots, is said to favour a move to Anfield, with personal terms not expected to be a stumbling block.
The former Paris Saint-Germain forward enjoyed a standout 2024–25 campaign, scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances for Frankfurt, helping them secure a Champions League berth.
According to journalist David Ornstein, discussions between Liverpool and Frankfurt are accelerating as the Merseyside club looks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the new season.
Ekitike is viewed as a high-potential talent capable of leading the line for years to come.
“Liverpool advancing in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. Negotiations for 23yo #SGE forward progressing on package worth in excess of €80m. France youth int’l wants #LFC so personals no issue,” Ornstein posted.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who has already overseen the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, sees Ekitike as a central figure in his plans.
The club is also keen to retain Colombian winger Luis Diaz amid interest from European rivals, with the aim of building one of the most dynamic attacking trios in world football.
Ekitike’s combination of pace, power, and finishing makes him an ideal fit for the Premier League, and Liverpool are optimistic about concluding the deal swiftly as pre-season preparations intensify.
