Liverpool face Como twice in one day ahead of 2026-27 season

Liverpool completed their pre-season preparations with two friendlies against Italian side Como on Sunday, recording a goalless draw before winning the second match 2-0 at Anfield.

The two games were played on the same evening, with Liverpool and Como using completely different starting line-ups for each fixture. The unusual double-header gave both teams the opportunity to provide competitive minutes to their squads ahead of the new campaign.

The opening match ended 0-0, with neither side able to find a breakthrough at Anfield. Liverpool then secured victory in the second meeting, scoring twice without reply.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. The Netherlands international finished from a cross delivered by Jeremie Frimpong, guiding the ball into the net to give Liverpool the lead.

Liverpool doubled their advantage shortly before half-time when Jeremy Jacquet struck in the 44th minute. The goal came after Gakpo supplied a pass across the face of goal, leaving Jacquet with an opportunity in front of an unguarded net.

The double-header against Como was Liverpool’s final pre-season exercise before the start of the 2026-27 season. The club will now turn their attention to their opening competitive fixture.

Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign away to Newcastle United in the first round of matches. The meeting at Newcastle United will be the team’s first opportunity to build on their preparations and begin the new season with points at stake.

The two contrasting results against Como brought Liverpool’s pre-season schedule to a close. The first match finished without a goal, while the second saw Liverpool claim a 2-0 success through Gakpo and Jacquet.

Using a different team in each game ensured that the Liverpool squad was involved across both matches, while Como also changed their entire line-up between the fixtures. Both matches took place at Anfield, allowing Liverpool to complete their preparations at home before their opening Premier League trip.

With the Como fixtures now finished, Liverpool’s focus moves to Newcastle United and the beginning of the new campaign. Their first league match will be played away from home, after which the club’s preparations for 2026-27 will give way to the demands of competitive football.
