Liverpool eye shock return for English-Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah just one year after Leverkusen move

Liverpool FC are reportedly weighing up a move to re-sign England-born defender of Ghanaian descent Jarell Quansah next summer, barely a year after his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

Quansah joined the Bundesliga side last summer in a deal worth around €35 million, with Leverkusen banking on the 23-year-old to strengthen their back line and gradually cement his place within the squad.

The move was viewed as a long-term investment as the club sought to add youth and composure to its defence.

However, fresh reports from England suggest a potential twist could be on the horizon. Liverpool are said to be keen on reinforcing their central defensive options and have placed Quansah back on their shortlist.

According to Sky, the Merseyside club inserted a buy-back clause worth €80 million into the original agreement, which remains valid until May 2026. With concerns reportedly emerging over defensive depth, the Reds are internally assessing whether to trigger the option.

It remains unclear whether Liverpool will ultimately activate the clause, but the speculation is expected to intensify in the coming months.
