Liverpool draw and win against Como in two friendlies on same day
Liverpool completed their preparations for the 2026-27 season with two friendlies against Italian club Como on Sunday evening, drawing the first 0-0 before winning the second 2-0 at Anfield.
Both matches were played at Liverpool’s home stadium, with each side using a completely different starting line-up for the two games. The unusual double-header gave Liverpool the opportunity to give their squad further match practice before the competitive campaign begins.
The opening fixture ended without a goal. Neither team was able to break the deadlock at Anfield, leaving Liverpool with a goalless draw in the first of the two meetings.
Liverpool responded in the second game, securing a 2-0 victory over Como. Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after Jeremy Frimpong delivered a cross into the area. The Netherlands winger followed the ball into the net to put Liverpool ahead.
The home side doubled their advantage shortly before half-time. Jeremy Jacquet made it 2-0 in the 44th minute, finishing from close range after Gakpo provided the pass in front of an unguarded goal.
The two fixtures against Como represented Liverpool’s final test before the start of the new season. Arne Slot’s side will begin their Premier League campaign away from home against Newcastle United on the opening weekend.
Liverpool’s final pre-season outing therefore ended with both a draw and a win, while the two matches allowed the squad to be used in full across the same evening. The first encounter provided a goalless contest, but the second brought goals from Gakpo and Jacquet as Liverpool closed their preparations with a victory.
Their attention now turns to the Premier League, with Newcastle United waiting in the first round of fixtures. That match will be Liverpool’s first competitive game of the 2026-27 season and will take place at Newcastle’s home ground.
