Liverpool’s recruitment plans have shifted sharply after Alexander Isak suffered an injury scare, prompting senior club figures to consider accelerating a move for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.
What had been viewed as a summer target is now under discussion for the January window, with decision makers increasingly uneasy about their attacking depth.
The rethink follows Isak’s setback during Liverpool’s win at Tottenham on Saturday. The striker sustained what was described internally as a “lower leg injury”, with sources indicating the issue has raised significant concern behind the scenes.
While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, the timing has forced directors to revisit contingency plans that had been parked until later in the year.
Semenyo has been monitored closely by Liverpool’s scouting department over an extended period. The Ghana international has impressed with his pace, physicality and versatility across the front line, qualities that fit the club’s long-term attacking profile. He has eight league goals and three assists.
Until now, the intention had been to observe his progress through the remainder of the season before making a formal approach.
That stance may no longer hold. With the January transfer window opening in under two weeks, internal discussions are understood to have focused on whether Liverpool should act decisively to secure cover and competition in attack.
According to reports, Semenyo’s contract includes a £65 million buyout clause that can be activated during the first two weeks of the winter window, a detail that adds urgency to the debate.
Bournemouth are aware of growing interest in the forward and are braced for enquiries should the clause be tested.
