Liverpool decide against Yankuba Minteh deal after Brighton negotiations

Liverpool have withdrawn their offer for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh after a week of negotiations, bringing an end to the proposed transfer of the Gambia international.

The decision was confirmed by Footy-Africa, with the Merseyside club choosing not to continue discussions despite making the 22-year-old one of their main priorities towards the end of the transfer window.

Liverpool’s management had submitted an improved proposal to Minteh’s representatives in an attempt to help resolve the impasse with Brighton. However, the club ultimately decided that completing the deal would carry too much risk, particularly after the player suffered a recent injury.

The move comes as Liverpool work on rebuilding their squad. Although Minteh’s profile had attracted significant interest from the Reds, the club’s hierarchy concluded that the circumstances surrounding the proposed transfer did not justify pushing ahead.

Brighton had already rejected two Liverpool offers, worth €60m and €70m respectively. The Seagulls’ stance had made the negotiations increasingly difficult, while Minteh’s injury added another concern for the English club to consider before committing to the deal.

Minteh, who was born in Serekunda, will now focus on returning to full fitness with Brighton. The winger is valued at €45m and earns €2,467,296 a year in England, equivalent to 1,603,742,400 FCFA. His contract with Brighton, known as the Seagulls, runs until 2029.

The transfer saga had developed late in the window, when Minteh emerged as one of Liverpool’s preferred attacking targets. The club’s willingness to improve its proposal indicated that it had initially been determined to find an agreement, but the latest decision means the player is expected to remain at Brighton.

Brighton are due to play their third match of the English league season against Leeds United shortly. Betting company 1xBet lists Brighton as favourites for the fixture, giving them odds of 1.90 to win. A draw is priced at 3.50, while Leeds United are offered at 3.90.

Minteh’s immediate priority, however, is his recovery from injury rather than a move to Anfield. With his Brighton contract lasting until 2029, the club remains in a strong position regarding his future, while Liverpool must now look elsewhere if they decide to strengthen their attacking options.
