Liverpool could renew interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh in January

Liverpool may return for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh during the January transfer window after failing to reach an agreement for the Gambia international in the summer.

The Reds made two offers for the 21-year-old, initially proposing £50m and then increasing their bid to £60m. Both offers were rejected by Brighton, who ultimately set their valuation at £80m.

A renewed approach in January remains possible, according to Gambian journalist Foday Manneh, who has been following the situation closely. Speaking to Sport Witness, Manneh said Liverpool could revisit the deal once Minteh’s condition and the club’s attacking options become clearer.

Minteh is currently unavailable after undergoing surgery, meaning his recovery will be an important factor in any decision over a potential move. Liverpool’s plans could also be influenced by the possibility of Cody Gakpo leaving the club in January, with Manneh suggesting that a departure could create a greater need for another attacking player.

Liverpool interest could return

Minteh’s representatives have already worked with British agency CAA Stellar to help facilitate discussions with Liverpool. That previous contact could allow negotiations to regain momentum over the coming months, although no fresh offer from the Premier League club has been confirmed.

Former Gambia manager Saintfiet previously said: “Minteh to Liverpool? It’s possible.”

Minteh joined Brighton and is under contract with the Seagulls until 2029. He is valued at 45m euros by Transfermarkt and earns an annual salary of 2,467,296 euros, equivalent to 1,603,742,400 FCFA, in England.

Brighton’s next fixture is against Sunderland in the sixth round of the English championship.
