Dayot Upamecano seeks improved terms in Bayern Munich contract talks

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing French defender of Guinea-Bissau descent, Dayot Upamecano.

The 26-year-old’s current deal with Bayern Munich runs until 2026, but talks over an extension have stalled, largely due to the player’s salary demands. While Bayern are keen to keep him, uncertainty over his future has alerted several top European clubs.

Liverpool are believed to be prioritising Marc Guehi as their main target, but reports from Rousing The Kop suggest Upamecano is firmly on their radar as an alternative.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey explained: “I think Marc Guehi is their first choice, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Dayot Upamecano becomes available and Liverpool get interested. Konaté, Guehi and Upamecano are all at a similar level. Liverpool have had an eye on him before, they know all about him.”

Should Guehi’s deal fall through, Upamecano could emerge as a strong candidate to join fellow Frenchman Ibrahima Konaté at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
