Liverpool are said to be confident about the possibility of extending the contract of French defender of Malian descent, Ibrahima Konate.

The centre-back, whose current contract runs out in less than 12 months, will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs if no agreement is reached by January.

Real Madrid are believed to be monitoring the situation closely, hoping to repeat their success from last summer when they lured Trent Alexander-Arnold to Spain.

Liverpool, however, remain determined to keep Konaté. The club tabled a fresh contract offer two weeks ago and believes a breakthrough is possible, even though certain details are still under discussion.

Konaté’s strong displays this season have further boosted his profile, with some suggesting he may already be considering his options beyond Anfield.

Yet Liverpool are pushing to secure his future and avoid losing another key player to Europe’s elite.

The Frenchman is reportedly undecided about his future, although he is happy at Liverpool and committed to giving his best to help the team in the ongoing 2025/26 football campaign.
