Brendan Rodgers Full of Praise for Christian Benteke Despite Slow Start at Liverpool
Christian Benteke may not have found the back of the net for Liverpool yet, but manager Brendan Rodgers is already confident in the Belgian striker’s abilities and impact on the team. The former Aston Villa forward was one of Liverpool’s key signings in the summer, and Rodgers is convinced he has the qualities needed to improve the club’s attacking options.
“Benteke has the qualities needed to improve the club,” said Rodgers. “First of all, he is accurate. Since he has been in the Premier League, he has been one of the best scorers in the competition.”
Although some pundits have questioned whether Benteke’s style of play fits into Liverpool’s high-pressing, possession-based approach, Rodgers is undeterred. “Benteke doesn’t fit our style of play, but I just think he’ll complement it,” the Northern Irish coach explained. “He’s still young and needs to develop his game even more. His style will fit into our tactical plan.”
Rodgers highlighted Benteke’s versatility, emphasizing his physical attributes. “He’s tall, but he’s also fast and moves well. He can score in multiple ways. He’s great in the air, he’s strong, he can slow down the game, and he’s also good in transition. In addition, he can keep the ball thanks to his physical strength.”
With Benteke’s potential to adapt and contribute in various areas of Liverpool’s game, Rodgers is optimistic that the striker will quickly find his rhythm at Anfield.
