The draw is being held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association in Egypt.

The 2027 finals, set for 19 June to 17 July, will mark a historic return of the tournament to East Africa, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania co-hosting the showpiece for the first time in 51 years.
The development is being viewed as a significant moment for the region, both in footballing and infrastructural terms, as preparations intensify for a landmark continental event.
The draw comes on the back of strong momentum generated by the record-breaking CAF AFCON Morocco 2025, which delivered unprecedented global viewership figures and engagement across digital platforms, reinforcing the competition’s rising profile.
On stage in Cairo, several African football icons will conduct the draw, including Max-Alain Gradel of Côte d’Ivoire, William Troost-Ekong of Nigeria, Egypt’s Essam El Hadary and Trésor Mputu of the Democratic Republic of Congo, adding star power to the ceremony.
A total of 48 teams will compete in the qualifiers, divided into 12 groups, with 24 nations advancing to the finals.
The three co-hosts, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, already hold automatic places, completing a qualification structure designed to ensure a competitive and globally visible pathway to AFCON 2027.
