Lincoln City complete loan signing of Ireland winger Chiedozie Ogbene from Ipswich

Ireland winger Chiedozie Ogbene has joined Lincoln City from Ipswich Town on loan, completing a move that brings the 29-year-old to the Championship club until 1 January 2027.

Ogbene, who also has Nigerian nationality, switches clubs after spending the 2025-26 season on loan at Sheffield United. He returned to Ipswich at the end of that temporary spell on 31 May before moving on to Lincoln at the start of September.

The right winger joined Ipswich from Luton Town in August 2024 for €9.5m. His move to Lincoln is a loan transfer, with Ipswich retaining his registration and the arrangement scheduled to conclude on 1 January 2027.

Born in Lagos, Ogbene began his senior career with Cork City before moving to Limerick in January 2017. He joined Brentford in January 2018 and subsequently spent time on loan at Exeter City, before leaving the club for Rotherham United in August 2019.

His time at Rotherham included a Football League Trophy-winning campaign in 2021-22. Ogbene later joined Luton on a free transfer in July 2023, helping add top-flight experience to his career before making the move to Ipswich a year later.

Ogbene has also been recognised internationally, being named Ireland’s Footballer of the Year in 2023. He has represented Ireland after being born in Nigeria, giving Lincoln a player with experience across both domestic and international football.

The 1.81-metre winger is right-footed and operates primarily on the right side of attack. His arrival gives Lincoln another experienced wide player as they compete in the Championship, while his market value is listed at €4m.

Lincoln’s move is the latest stage of a career that has taken Ogbene from the League of Ireland to English football’s top divisions. He won the Irish Cup with Cork City in 2015-16 before progressing through clubs in England and establishing himself at Championship and Premier League level.

Ogbene has now left Ipswich for Lincoln City on loan, with the transfer dated 1 September 2026 and the temporary deal running until 1 January 2027.
