After an impressive start to the season in Ligue 1, Lille has faced challenges in maintaining their form since the winter break. Despite being third in the standings, Salomon Kalou and his teammates have been criticized for their perceived lack of ambition on the field. However, Vincent Enyeama, the Nigerian goalkeeper of Lille, has been quick to defend the team against such criticisms.
“You know, we’re not trying to emulate Barcelona or Real Madrid. Our focus is on winning and accumulating as many points as possible, regardless of how we play. If you look at the statistics, Lille consistently ranks among the best in terms of ball possession and passing. We play good football, even if we don’t always find the back of the net,” expressed Enyeama during a press conference.
Despite their offensive struggles, with only 33 goals scored this season placing them twelfth in Ligue 1, Enyeama and his team remain resolute. Their next challenge awaits as they travel to face AS Monaco in their upcoming fixture on Sunday, part of the 30th day of Ligue 1.
