Lille turn to Real Madrid academy star as Ayyoub Bouaddi nears Manchester City move

Lille have identified Real Madrid academy midfielder Jorge Cestero as a potential replacement for Moroccan youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is closing in on a move to Manchester City, according to reports in Spain.

The French club have begun planning for a major squad transition this summer, with Bouadi expected to leave after his impressive rise at both club and international level.

Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Lille have already contacted Real Madrid over the possibility of signing the 20-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Real Madrid Castilla.

Bouadi set for Manchester City move

Bouadi has become one of European football’s most highly rated young midfielders after an outstanding breakthrough season.

The 18-year-old Lille player gained further attention following his performances with Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which significantly increased his market value.

Lille have long recognised the midfielder’s potential and reportedly believe his transfer value could exceed €100 million.

Manchester City are now close to reaching an agreement with Lille, with negotiations said to have advanced significantly and the main terms of the deal already settled.

Cestero emerges as Lille target

With Bouadi’s departure approaching, Lille are looking towards another talented young midfielder in Real Madrid’s system.

Cestero, who joined Real Madrid in 2019, has developed into one of the academy’s most promising players thanks to his intelligence, technical ability and composure in midfield.

His former coach Álvaro Arbeloa has described him as “the best defensive midfielder in Spain”, highlighting the reputation he has built within the club.

The Zaragoza-born midfielder is known not only for his defensive qualities but also his ability to control possession, break through pressure and contribute to attacking phases.

Real Madrid continue to monitor progress

Real Madrid remain closely following Cestero’s development and have not ruled out a future promotion to the first team.

The midfielder, who is contracted until 2028, previously trained alongside senior players under Xabi Alonso and later made his first-team debut under Arbeloa in a Champions League match against Benfica.
