Sofiane Boufal Joins Lille After Leaving Angers
Sofiane Boufal, who had been attracting attention from several Ligue 1 clubs, will not be spending the second half of the 2014-2015 season with Angers. Instead, the talented Moroccan midfielder has completed a move to Lille OSC, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club on Friday.
Despite Olympique de Marseille’s interest, with OM reportedly monitoring Boufal closely through their sporting director Olivier Pickeu, the player has chosen to make the move to Lille. Boufal’s performances this season, particularly his brilliant goal against Dijon in Ligue 2—a stunning solo effort that showcased his dribbling skills—only increased the interest from top French clubs, including Marseille. However, Lille managed to secure his services ahead of their rivals.
Boufal, who was still under contract with Angers until June 2016, will look to continue his development at Lille and contribute to their efforts in the domestic competition.
