Lille set to land Chuba Akpom in transfer coup
Lille OSC are on the verge of signing Ajax forward Chuba Akpom on loan with an option to buy, per reports from Foot Mercato and L’Équipe.
The French club is moving swiftly to secure the former Arsenal academy star as they strengthen their attacking options this winter.
With Mohamed Bayo’s potential loan move to Royal Antwerp and Jonathan David entering the final six months of his contract, Lille are eager to reinforce their frontline. Akpom, who impressed at Middlesbrough before his switch to Ajax, could provide immediate depth while also offering a long-term solution for the club.
The race for Akpom’s signature hasn’t been without competition. Sunderland had reportedly expressed interest in bringing him back to England, but Lille now appear to be in pole position to finalize the deal. If completed, the move could see Akpom play a key role in Lille’s attacking setup for the remainder of the season and beyond.
