Lille Announce Player Number and Name Changes Ahead of Champions League
Ahead of their third preliminary round Champions League match in Zurich on Wednesday, Lille have announced a couple of notable changes within their squad.
Ryan Mendes, the Cape Verdean winger, will switch his shirt number from 11 to 20 this season — aligning with the number he wears for his national team.
Meanwhile, Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye will now be known simply as “Gana” on his jersey, honoring his grandfather’s name. This marks a departure from previous seasons where he used his surname.
These subtle changes highlight the fresh start for LOSC as they prepare for European competition.
