Cape Verde’s Ryan Mendes Ruled Out of Lille’s Clash with Guingamp
BBC Sport – Lille
Lille will be without several key players, including Cape Verde international Ryan Mendes, for their Ligue 1 fixture against Guingamp on Matchday 11. The club confirmed Mendes’ absence via its official Twitter account, citing an adductor injury sustained during a recent match against Wolfsburg.
The 24-year-old winger also missed Cape Verde’s recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and is now ruled out of domestic action as he continues his recovery.
LOSC head coach René Girard faces an increasingly thin squad heading into the weekend’s clash. Alongside Mendes, midfielder Marvin Martin remains sidelined with an arch injury, while Jonathan Delaplace and Rony Lopes are both out with hamstring issues.
“Jonathan #Delaplace, Marvin #Martin, Ryan #Mendes and @Rony10Lopes are out of #LOSCEAG,” the club announced on social media.
The string of injuries presents a challenge for Lille, who are seeking to bounce back after a patchy run of form. Mendes’ absence in particular will be a blow, as the pacey winger had become a key figure for both club and country before his recent setback.
Cape Verde, meanwhile, managed their international duties without Mendes, fielding a competitive squad in their recent outing against Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Lille will be hoping to avoid further injury setbacks as they look to maintain their position in the top half of the Ligue 1 table.
