French Ligue 1 outfit Lille OSC are leading the race to sign Cameroonian teenager Angel Yondjo.
The French club has beaten competition from several European clubs and is expected to seal the signing of the 18-year-old in the coming days.
Angel Yondjo is expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday before putting pen to paper on a long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2030.
Yondjo’s current club, EF Brasseries Du Cameroun, will reportedly receive a fee in the region of €2 million for the youngster, widely regarded as one of the finest prospects to emerge from Cameroon in recent years.
Already a youth international with Cameroon’s U23 team, Yondjo has been on Lille’s radar for over a year.
Clubs such as Olympique Lyonnais, Stade Rennais, AC Milan, Chelsea, and Manchester City had all expressed interest, but Lille appear to have edged ahead.
This has been possible thanks in part to their existing relationship with Brasseries Du Cameroun.
The French side previously signed Carlos Baleba from the same academy, demonstrating a clear development pathway that continues to attract rising stars from the region.
Yondjo is understood to be excited about his imminent move and cannot wait to begin a new chapter of his career in France.
