Tanguy Nianzou joins Lille

French Ligue 1 side Lille OSC have officially announced the signing of Franco-Ivorian defender Tanguy Nianzou from Sevilla FC, bringing the versatile centre-back back to French football after four seasons abroad.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with an option to extend his stay by an additional season, a deal that could keep him at the club until 2028.

The transfer marks a fresh start for Nianzou, who will now look to revive his career in familiar surroundings after spending the last four years in Germany and Spain. Lille see the talented defender as a valuable addition to their squad as they prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign and their ambitions in domestic and European competitions.

Nianzou returns to the French top flight with valuable experience despite his relatively young age. Widely regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects of his generation, he began his professional journey with Paris Saint-Germain, where he rose through the club’s renowned youth academy before making his senior debut.

His performances in Paris attracted the attention of German giants FC Bayern Munich, who secured his signature in 2020. Although injuries limited his opportunities in Germany, Nianzou gained valuable experience training and competing alongside some of Europe’s finest defenders while collecting silverware during his time at Bayern.

Seeking more regular first-team football, the defender completed a move to Sevilla FC in 2022. During his spell in La Liga, he featured in both domestic and European competitions, showcasing his composure on the ball, physical strength and ability to operate as a central defender or defensive midfielder.

Now, the Franco-Ivorian returns to Ligue 1 with renewed determination to establish himself as one of the league’s top defenders. Lille’s coaching staff believe his technical quality, athleticism and experience at elite European clubs will strengthen their defensive unit significantly.

The move also offers Nianzou the opportunity to rediscover the consistency that once made him one of France’s most highly rated young defenders. At just 24, he still has ample time to fulfil the immense potential that earned him moves to Bayern Munich and Sevilla at an early stage of his career.

For Lille, securing a player with experience in Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, La Liga and European competitions represents a significant boost ahead of the new season. The club hopes Nianzou’s arrival will add leadership, defensive solidity and tactical flexibility as they aim to challenge for honours and secure another successful campaign.

Having officially completed the transfer, Nianzou is expected to join his new teammates immediately for pre-season preparations as Lille begin integrating one of their marquee defensive signings into the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
