LILIAN THURAM TO RECEIVE 2014 ETHICS PRIZE FROM KÉBA MBAYE FOUNDATION
For its third edition scheduled for April 18, 2015, in Dakar, the Kéba Mbaye Foundation has chosen former French international footballer Lilian Thuram as the recipient of its 2014 Ethics Prize. The foundation, named after the renowned Senegalese judge and former member of the International Olympic Committee Ethics Commission, highlighted Thuram’s commitment to education and the fight against racism as key reasons for the selection.
Foundation officials praised Thuram for his outstanding career and for becoming a role model for youth by leading activism for social change, particularly in schools and sports circles. El Hadji Ibrahima Ndao, the president of the foundation, emphasized that Thuram has used his high-profile status as a 1998 World Cup winner to promote critical social causes.
Abdoul Mbaye, son of the foundation’s patron Kéba Mbaye (the former Prime Minister of Senegal), added, “By awarding Thuram, we are supporting the fight against racism, a scourge that undermines international sport.”
The official awards ceremony will take place at the Grand Théâtre de Dakar under the patronage of Senegal’s President Macky Sall on April 18, where Lilian Thuram will be honored for his continued efforts to combat racial discrimination and promote education.
