It has been reported that Karine LeMarchand, the host of “L’amour est dans le pré” on M6, filed a complaint for domestic violence against her former companion, Lilian Thuram. The 1998 World Cup champion and ex-footballer allegedly grabbed LeMarchand by the hair and pushed her three times against the refrigerator. The incident is said to have occurred on Wednesday, September 4.
Karine Le Marchand, aged 45, filed the complaint at the 16th arrondissement police station in Paris. The breakup between LeMarchand and Thuram was initially discussed by LeMarchand on a radio show without disclosing the cause. Lilian Thuram, known for his achievements on the football field and his advocacy work against racism, was promoted to officer of the Legion of Honor in the last Easter promotion.
The report also highlights the broader issue of domestic violence, citing statistics from the National Observatory of Delinquency and Penal Responses (ONDRP) on crime in France. According to the 2012 report, 122 women died in 2011 as victims of their spouses or ex-spouses, and 53,868 non-fatal violence against women within couples were recorded by law enforcement in the same year.
Lilian Thuram was awarded the Legion of Honor by the Minister of Justice, Christiane Taubira, on September 17.
