Zinedine Zidane Will Not Join Bordeaux as Head Coach, Confirms Club President
Speculation surrounding Zinedine Zidane’s potential move to manage Girondins de Bordeaux has come to an end. Despite growing rumours over the past several days, the French football legend will not be returning to his former club as head coach.
Speaking on RTL radio, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed that negotiations with Zidane had taken place, but ultimately the deal could not be finalised.
“I’m not going to deny that we have had many contacts,” Triaud acknowledged. “Unfortunately, not everything could be done to recruit Zidane. So today, I can confirm that he will not be the coach of Bordeaux.”
Zidane, currently serving as assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, had been seen as a high-profile candidate to lead the Marine et Blanc. His potential appointment would have marked a symbolic return to the club where he spent part of his playing career before achieving global stardom.
When asked if Zidane’s demands had proven excessive or difficult to meet, Triaud denied that was the issue. “No, it’s global—the conditions are not right, that’s all,” he said. “When it shouldn’t happen, it shouldn’t happen. You have to turn the page and move on.”
With Zidane now officially out of the running, Bordeaux will continue its search for a new manager ahead of the next Ligue 1 campaign. Meanwhile, Zidane remains focused on his current role at Real Madrid, where he continues to gain experience at the highest level of European football.
