The commencement of the Tunisian football championship is facing another delay. Originally scheduled for this Thursday, following a previous postponement from last Sunday, the first day of the Tunisian Ligue 1 championship has once again been deferred.
In an official statement released on its website, the Tunisian Federation (FTF) announced that “the start of the League I Championship of the 2013/2014 season has been postponed to a later date.” The primary reason for this delay is the reluctance of clubs to resume play until the supervisory ministry addresses the financial deficit associated with matches being held behind closed doors.
The current socio-political climate in Tunisia has led authorities to prohibit all gatherings, a measure that has already affected events such as the CAF Champions League match between Esperance and Coton Sport. This situation has prompted the decision to postpone the start of the league until a resolution is reached.
