ANDRÉ AYEW SUSPENDED FOR LIGUE 1 CLASSIC AGAINST PSG
Olympique de Marseille will be without André Ayew for the highly anticipated Ligue 1 Classic against Paris Saint-Germain, after the Ghanaian forward received a yellow card during OM’s 1-0 defeat to Lyon on Matchday 11.
Already on the brink of suspension due to previous bookings on Matchdays 4 and 10, Ayew was shown another yellow in the 74th minute of the Olympico clash at Gerland. As a result, he will serve a one-match suspension on Matchday 13, ruling him out of the showdown at the Parc des Princes.
Ayew didn’t hide his frustration after the match, criticizing the officiating:
“The refereeing was not good at all,” he said. “I think there was a penalty on Flo [Thauvin], I wasn’t far from the action. Morel made almost his only foul of the match and got a yellow. I made one foul—yellow. The referee knew the match against Paris was coming. I don’t know if it was intentional, but I’m disgusted.”
OM, still leading Ligue 1 with 25 points, sees their lead reduced to four points ahead of second-placed PSG. Before the Classic, Marseille will face RC Lens on Matchday 12 at the Vélodrome.
