Dimitri Payet’s future at Olympique de Marseille is uncertain following a disappointing season with the club. The French international, who joined Marseille last summer from Lille for €10 million, has failed to live up to expectations, contributing just eight goals and seven assists throughout the season.
With Marseille needing to sell players to balance their books by the end of June, Payet could be sacrificed to alleviate the club’s financial woes. According to L’Equipe, Marseille would entertain offers for the 27-year-old winger if a suitable bid were to come in.
This development comes as a surprise, given Payet’s previous statements expressing his desire to stay at Marseille long-term. However, his underwhelming performances this season seem to have changed the club’s stance on his future.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Payet could be one of the first casualties as Marseille looks to rebuild and address its financial situation.
