Bordeaux Maintain Perfect Start with 3-1 Win Over Nice
Bordeaux continued their impressive start to the Ligue 1 season under new manager Willy Sagnol by securing a third consecutive victory on Saturday, defeating Nice 3-1 at home.
The Girondins have hit the ground running this campaign, and their captain, Lamine Sané, reflected on the team’s performance and the match’s physical intensity in a post-match interview with RMC Sport.
Sané acknowledged that the refereeing decisions were challenging and noted the numerous bookings Bordeaux received during the game. “It was difficult in terms of refereeing. It works for us,” he said. “I haven’t reviewed all the actions, there could have been mistakes. So much the better for Bordeaux.”
The Senegalese defender also highlighted the influence of their manager, Willy Sagnol, whose aggressive playing style has clearly filtered down to the team. “Willy Sagnol is rigorous. He was a very aggressive player, and he passed that on to us,” Sané added.
He admitted that Bordeaux may have been overly committed on the pitch but insisted the team’s response was driven by pride. “We were overly committed. Afterwards, we had to respond. The Nice players were very angry. As players, we have pride. We wanted to respond,” Sané explained.
The match’s intensity was further underlined by a red card shown to Bordeaux forward Cheick Diabaté, a decision Sané said the team will need to learn from going forward. “Even if we will have to work to channel actions like Diabaté’s red card,” he remarked.
Bordeaux’s strong start under Sagnol signals a team eager to compete at the top end of the French league this season, blending solid defensive organization with attacking ambition.
Their next fixtures will be crucial in maintaining this momentum as they look to establish themselves as a consistent force under their new manager.
