Nantes and Marseille Draw 1-1 in Ligue 1 Opener, Gakpé Scores Equalizer
In the opening match of Ligue 1’s 35th matchday, Nantes and Marseille played out an exciting 1-1 draw at the Beaujoire Stadium. Both teams exhibited attacking intent throughout the match, but they lacked the finishing touch to claim all three points.
Marseille took the lead in the 30th minute through Florian Thauvin, but Nantes responded in the second half, with Serge Gakpé scoring the equalizer in the 64th minute. The goal came after a well-timed run and finish, continuing Gakpé’s impressive form.
Despite the draw, the Togolese international expressed frustration with the result. Speaking to beIN Sports, Gakpé reflected on the missed opportunities: “I’m happy to score the equalizer, but I think we could have aspired to more. We had quite a few chances. If we had been a little tougher, we could have hoped for better than a draw. We had clear situations where, if we had been calmer, it could have resulted in a goal. We are disappointed. We wanted to get the three points for our fans; it was a good match. But I am a little frustrated.”
While both teams showed moments of promise, they will have to improve their composure in front of goal as they look to finish the season strongly.
