Olympique de Marseille had an excellent start to the Ligue 1 championship, securing a 3-1 victory against Guingamp. The Phocéens dominated the match from the beginning, with Gignac scoring in the 2nd minute and Payet adding two more goals in the 9th and 16th minutes. Guingamp managed to pull one back with Yatabaré converting a penalty in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit. This victory marked a strong opening performance for Marseille in the new season.
