This weekend in France, the 31st day of Ligue 1 concludes with the highly anticipated Rhône Derby between Lyon and Saint-Etienne. On Sunday, Saint-Etienne will make the trip to Gerland to face Lyon in a match that transcends regional rivalry, with both clubs vying for a place in Europe. Lyon regained momentum towards Europe with a 1-0 victory over Guingamp last weekend, putting them just 3 points behind Saint-Etienne.

In light of the absences of Miguel Lopes and Mouhamadou Dabo, Mehdi Zeffane may be included in the lineup for Lyon. Speaking about the derby, the young Algerian-born Lyon player expressed his excitement in an interview with 20 Minutes.

“I see this match as a huge opportunity, one that few players get to experience in their careers. If I get the chance to play, it would be wonderful. I’ve played in many youth derbies over the eleven years I’ve been at the club, and I understand the fierce desire to win that comes with it. I’ve played in around ten derbies and don’t recall losing any. One match that stands out is a 6-4 victory in Saint-Etienne with the U16s, where we were trailing 4-1 in the 50th minute.”
